  • Top Speed: 275 km/h (Tokyo - Fukushima) / 130 km/h (Fukushima - Shinjo)
  • Trains: E3 series / E8 series (New in 2024)

Key Features

Coupled with Yamabiko

Between Tokyo and Fukushima, the Tsubasa train is coupled to the Yamabiko train. They separate at Fukushima Station.

2-2 Seating Configuration

Because of the narrower local tracks, the train uses a 2-2 seating configuration, providing a spacious and comfortable experience.

Hot Springs (Onsen) Access

The Yamagata Shinkansen is often called the “Onsen Shinkansen.” It stops directly at famous hot spring resort towns:

  • Yonezawa / Kaminoyama Onsen
  • Tendo Onsen
  • Oishida (Gateway to Ginzan Onsen)

Scenic Views

  • Itaya Pass: Right after Fukushima, the train climbs steeply into the mountains, offering dramatic views of deep valleys and snow-covered landscapes in winter.
