What is the Sanyo Shinkansen?
The Sanyo Shinkansen connects Osaka with Western Japan (Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi) and Fukuoka (Hakata). It shares tracks with the Tokaido Shinkansen to the east and the Kyushu Shinkansen to the south, making it a major hub for cross-country travel.

- Hikari makes more stops and runs mostly in the early morning or evening.
- Kodama stops at every station. The famous 500 series (including the Hello Kitty Shinkansen) operates as a Kodama.

- Seto Inland Sea: You can enjoy beautiful views of the Seto Inland Sea and the Chugoku Mountains between Aioi and Okayama, and between Hiroshima and Shin-Yamaguchi.
