  • Top Speed: 320 km/h (Tokyo - Morioka) / 130 km/h (Morioka - Akita)

Key Features

Coupled with Hayabusa

Between Tokyo and Morioka, the Komachi train is coupled (attached) to the Hayabusa train. At Morioka Station, the trains detach, and the Komachi continues alone to Akita.

Mini-Shinkansen

Because it runs on local tracks after Morioka, the train is slightly narrower than standard Shinkansen trains, with a 2-2 seating configuration. The views are much closer to the ground, offering beautiful, intimate scenery of the Japanese countryside.

Reversing Direction at Omagari

At Omagari Station (one stop before Akita), the train changes direction. The driver will walk to the other end of the train, and the train will travel “backwards” for the final 30 minutes to Akita. Passengers usually do not turn their seats around for this short segment.

Scenic Views

  • Tazawako (Lake Tazawa): Beautiful mountain and forest views.
  • Kakunodate: Famous for its historic samurai houses and weeping cherry blossoms in spring.
